SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir has recorded 30 percent above-average precipitation over the past five days, leading to an increase in the water levels of the Jhelum River and other streams.
According to data, JK received 33mm of rainfall from March 1 to 5, compared to the average rainfall of 25.4mm during this period.
The highest precipitation was recorded in Bandipora, where rainfall was 68 percent above the average.
As per the data, nine stations, including Srinagar, Budgam, Baramulla, Doda, Kupwara, Pulwama, Rajouri, Shopian, and Udhampur, recorded excess rainfall, ranging from 20 percent to 59 percent above normal.
However, Reasi, Samba, and Kathua recorded below-average rainfall during this period. Meanwhile, some stations, including Ramban, Kishtwar, and Bandipora, experienced significantly above-normal rainfall.
Anantnag, Ganderbal, Jammu, Kulgam, and Poonch recorded normal precipitation.
The recent wet spell has helped recharge water bodies across Kashmir.
According to the data, the Jhelum River at Ram Munshi Bagh was flowing at 4.47 feet on Tuesday evening, indicating a rise in water levels. Other streams also witnessed an increase following the consecutive spells of rain in J&K.
Meteorological Department has predicted another wet spell from March 10, with the possibility of light to moderate rain and snowfall (in higher reaches) at many places on March 10 and 11. Cloudy conditions are expected on March 12, while another spell of rain and snow is likely on March 13 and 14. (KNO)
