SRINAGAR: NC Leader Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan described the upcoming Rajya Sabha election as a defining test of the region’s collective conscience and a chance to restore the “rightful voice” of its people in the national forum.
In a statement, Ramzan said the election transcends the contest for seats, framing it as a verdict on the policies of the BJP, which he accused of disempowering the region, dismantling its statehood and undermining its constitutional identity since 2019. “Under the false cloak of development, they sold deceit; under the banner of democracy, they practiced authoritarianism,” he said.
Ramzan highlighted that Jammu Kashmir has been treated as an experimental ground by New Delhi, stripped of representation and dignity, and urged citizens to convert public sentiment from the recent Assembly elections into parliamentary strength.
“This election is about reclaiming what was taken our statehood, our dignity, our special status, our rights, and our place in India’s democratic fabric,” he said. He added that the Rajya Sabha election offers an opportunity to remind the central government that democracy is about dialogue, not domination, and that the voices of the people cannot be silenced.
Ramzan appealed to all democratic and secular forces to set aside political differences and unite in defending the principles and “very soul” of India’s democracy. He described the movement as a moral struggle for collective survival, emphasising that it is about Jammu and Kashmir’s position within the republic, not personal political gain.
