Regretting that the commercial hub of Srinagar has been in red since September 2014 floods, Regal Chowk Traders Federation has appealed the government to seriously look into the matter.

The RCTA held a meeting in Srinagar today under its President Manzoor Ahmed Mir and Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation President Mohammed Yasin.

The meeting resolved that this once fashionable marketplace craves for life mostly due to the government neglect towards the summer capital and its marketplaces.

“While the drainage network is in mess and a few minutes of rain leaves the marketplace inundated in knee deep waters, lack of proper streetlights is another problem,” the RCTA said in a statement here.

The biggest problem, the traders said, is that public transport goes off before sunset. “Despite several assurances from the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, the matter remains unresolved. We appeal the new government led by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to personally look into the matter and resolve all issues including rehabilitation of the flood victims,” the RCTA Secretary General Farhan Kitab said. Others who attended the meeting included Muhammad Aslam Mattoo, Bashir Ahmad, Din Muhammad Mattoo and Farooq Ahmed Shah.
