SRINAGAR: In a significant crackdown on Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of the banned organisations, security forces conducted 56 coordinated raids across four districts of the Jammu region on Tuesday. The operations, targeting associates of proscribed outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), resulted in multiple arrests and the recovery of incriminating materials.
The raids, carried out in Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, and Reasi districts, police said were aimed to dismantle logistics and recruitment networks supporting militant activities. According to officials, the seized items included electronic devices, documents, unaccounted cash, weapons, and ammunition.
In Rajouri district, the security forces raided nine locations, including Thanamandi, Darhal, Kalakote, Manjakote, and Dharamsal, uncovering evidence linked to terror networks. In neighbouring Poonch district, 12 searches were conducted in areas like Surankote, Mandi, and Gursai as part of investigations into terror cases associated with JeM and LeT.
In Udhampur district, extensive searches at 25 locations in the Basantgarh area followed recent terror activity reports. The neighbouring Reasi district saw ten raids targeting locations such as Pauni, Gulabgarh, Arnas, and Mahore-Chasana, with significant recoveries.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Anand Jain confirmed that the operations had successfully apprehended several OGWs and suspects. “These actions have disrupted terror networks and will be followed up with further investigations based on the recovered evidence,” he stated.
The ADGP emphasised the importance of intelligence-driven operations in maintaining regional security and appealed to citizens to report suspicious activities. “Our focus remains on dismantling terror modules while ensuring minimal inconvenience to civilians,” he added.
This crackdown, police said, was part of broader efforts to address cross-border terrorism and neutralise elements attempting to destabilise peace in the region. Security forces are expected to conduct more such operations in the coming days.
