Castigating State Government for not taking the Koul Commission’s findings with regard to Shopian killings in 2013 seriously, the family members of the victims Thursday alleged that the Commission constituted by previous government was only an attempt to buy time and to shield the culprits.
Four persons including three innocent youth Tariq Ahmad Mir, Tauseef Ahmad and Muhammad Yusuf and a Pakistani militant Abdullah Haroon were killed in CRPF firing at Gagrin area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on September 7, when music maestro Zubin Mehta performed in Srinagar.
The one-man Koul Commission constituted by previous Government submitted its report in July 2014 in which he had indicted CRPF for these innocent killings.
The Commission while justifying the killing of Pakistani militant Abdullah Haroon, had termed the other three slain youth as innocent and had demanded compensation to the families of the victims and stern action against the guilty CRPF personnel.
The family members of the three innocent slain youth lashed out at the government for using inquiry committees as a tool to hoodwink the people. Gulzar Ahmed Mir, a resident of Okai Kulgam whose brother Tariq Ahmed Mir was one of the victims said that ever since the death of Tariq, the family members have undergone a lot of stress and hardships. “Tariq was a walnut merchant and sole bread earner for the family. Not to talk of initiating action against the guilty CRPF personnel, the government has not provided a single penny to the family,” he said adding that people in Kashmir have lost faith in inquiry committees.
Ghulam Muhammad Bhat, the father of another slain youth Tawseef Ahmed said that he wanted the government to implement the recommendations of Koul Commission in letter and spirit and that too without any delay. “The Koul Commission has submitted its report in July 2014 and it has almost been a year now and still no action has been initiated against the killer CRPF personnel. It is the murder of the justice,” Bhat said.
Principal Secretary Home, RK Goel said that he can’t talk about the issue as he is not present in the office while Inspector General CRPF, Atul Parikar said that he has recently assumed the charge and will first check the report submitted by the Commission. (CNS)
