SRINAGAR: Zarka Naseer Khan, a postgraduate in Veterinary Microbiology from the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), has secured admission to a fully funded PhD programme at Jeonbuk National University in South Korea, marking another international academic opportunity for a graduate of the Kashmir-based agricultural university.
Khan completed her Master of Veterinary Science (M.V.Sc.) in Veterinary Microbiology from the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, SKUAST-K, in July 2026. She joined the Department of Veterinary Medicine at Jeonbuk National University in September 2026 and will undertake her doctoral research at the university’s Infectious Disease Laboratory under the mentorship of Professor Oem Jae-Ku.
Her doctoral work will take her further into the field of veterinary medicine and infectious diseases, building on the academic training she received during her postgraduate studies at SKUAST-K.
The university said Khan’s admission reflects the academic pathways available to its graduates for pursuing advanced education and research opportunities at international institutions.
SKUAST-K Vice Chancellor Professor Nazir Ahmad Ganai has been leading efforts to strengthen the university’s academic and research ecosystem, with greater emphasis on enhancing students’ global mobility, employability and access to international education, research and professional opportunities.
Khan expressed gratitude to SKUAST-K for the education, training and academic support she received during her Master’s programme, saying the experience provided a strong foundation for her doctoral journey.
Her move to Jeonbuk National University also places her in an international research environment where she will pursue specialised work in infectious diseases, extending her academic trajectory from veterinary microbiology at SKUAST-K to doctoral-level research in South Korea.
