SRINAGAR: Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, along with Pahalgam and Kokernag in South Kashmir, and Gulmarg in the northern district of Baramulla, experienced the hottest day of the season on Friday.

Srinagar reached the highest temperature of the season today, with the mercury settling at 30.6 degrees Celsius.

Gulmarg, a renowned ski resort, also recorded the hottest day of the season, with officials reporting a temperature of 21.3 degrees Celsius at the station today. Similarly, Pahalgam and Kokernag in the southern district of Anantnag also witnessed the hottest day of the season.

The maximum temperatures in Pahalgam and Kokernag were recorded at 26.4 degrees Celsius and 29.6 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Following a prolonged wet spell of over two weeks, during which temperatures plummeted across the Union Territory, the maximum temperatures have risen throughout Jammu & Kashmir.

The local meteorological department had predicted a further increase in temperatures across Jammu & Kashmir, indicating the arrival of warmer days ahead.

Sonum Lotus, Director of the Meteorological Department (MeT), stated that the weather would remain predominantly dry from June 9 to June 12 in J&K. However, he added that a brief spell of showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the evening, cannot be ruled out during the next four days.

“The possibility of showers and thunderstorms in the evening is low, with only a 10-20 percent chance,” he said.

Lotus further mentioned that there is no forecast of any significant rainfall until June 12 in Jammu & Kashmir. (KNO)
