SRINAGAR: With no forecast of any major wet spell in Jammu and Kashmir, parts of Kashmir continue to experience a heat wave while other regions saw a slight drop in temperature on Friday.

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, continues to experience a heat wave with temperatures reaching 35.2°C today, 5.3°C above the normal temperature.
Kokernag, a popular tourist destination, also experienced high temperatures at 33.1°C, which is 5.7°C above normal.
Some areas, however, saw a dip in temperatures, alleviating the heat wave in regions like Pahalgam, Qazigund, Kupwara, and Gulmarg.
In Qazigund, temperatures settled at 32.2°C, while in Pahalgam, it was 29.7°C. Kupwara and Gulmarg, a famous ski-resort, recorded temperatures of 34.7°C and 25.7°C, respectively.
Jammu’s temperature matched Srinagar’s for the second time this week at 35.2°C, although it cannot be considered a heat wave.
Banihal in Jammu division recorded a maximum temperature of 31.2°C, while Batote, Katra, and Bhaderwah recorded maximum temperatures of 29.2°C, 33.0°C, and 32.4°C, respectively.
Notably, Jammu and Kashmir have experienced a 39 percent rainfall deficit from June 1, 2024, to July 24, 2024.
Srinagar, Shopian, Poonch, Kupwara, Kulgam, Kishtwar, Doda, Bandipora, Budgam, and Anantnag have been categorised as having large deficient rainfall.
Poonch and Shopian topped the list with an 83 percent and 81 percent deficit, respectively. Srinagar recorded a 67 percent rainfall deficit, while other areas saw nearly 70 percent deficient precipitation during this period.
Jammu and Samba were the only places to record normal precipitation during this period.
Four locations, including Baramulla, Reasi, Rajouri, and Ramban, recorded a rainfall deficit of up to 52 percent.
