Police said the action was carried out by Police Station Rainawari under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act as part of efforts to target assets allegedly acquired through proceeds of narcotics trade.

The attached properties belong to Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh, son of late Ghulam Hassan Sheikh, a resident of Tujgari Mohalla, Nowhatta, and Bilal Ahmad Kand, son of Ghulam Hyder Kand, a resident of Kand Mohalla, Dal, Rainawari.

According to police, Sheikh’s three-storeyed residential house built on five marlas of land at Tujgari Mohalla, valued at around Rs 65 lakh, has been attached in connection with FIR No. 59/2019 registered under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Rainawari.

Police said Sheikh is also involved in two other cases — FIR No. 11/2018 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act and FIR No. 41/2021 under Sections 8/20 NDPS Act and 48 Excise Act registered at Police Station Nowhatta.

Similarly, police attached five marlas of land along with a single-storeyed temporary structure belonging to Bilal Ahmad Kand at Kand Mohalla, Rainawari. The property, valued at approximately Rs 40 lakh, was attached in connection with FIR No. 36/2022 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Rainawari.

Police said both properties were attached under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act after they were identified as illegally acquired assets allegedly generated through narcotics trafficking.

Officials said the move is aimed at dismantling the financial networks of drug traffickers by tracing and confiscating properties acquired through illegal means.

Srinagar Police urged people to support the ongoing anti-drug campaign by sharing information related to narcotics activities, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
