The three resolutions seeking statehood were listed in the business of the House for discussion and voting. However, the resolutions couldn’t be discussed due to protests from the ruling alliance over the rejection of an adjournment motion for discussion on the Waqf Bill.

The resolutions were submitted by NC legislators Hilal Akbar Lone, Qaiser Jamsheed Lone and independent MLA Shabir Kulley.

They were selected through draw-of-lots on 25 March.

Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani Lone, in a post on X, formerly Twitter, questioned the National Conference over its protest, asking whether they were protesting about the Waqf Bill or stalling statehood resolutions. “Three resolutions seeking restoration of statehood lapsed today. This is a similar situation to when the resolution on Afzal Guru lapsed in 2013, when NC’s Speaker adjourned the House after Congress, then an ally of the NC-led government, created pandemonium out of the blue,” he said.
