Qazi Yasir, who according to spokesman has been in custody for last 21 days, said this after an incident of infighting over an issue in Shopian mosque was reported recently. He said that people should not stand against each other and cause sectarian differences, such actions only lead to damage to religious and political issue of Kashmir.

“We need to stand with each other as we are facing difficult times from every side, whether it is religious or political. If we will fight with each other for having difference of opinions then there is no scope of larger growth in any field. Muslim nations today are facing threat both within and from outside, thus it is duty of each of us to stay united. I am extremely disheartened to see what happened in Shopian a few days ago, such incidents should not be repeated,” he said.

Qazi Yasir, spokesman said urged the government to allow prayers in the Jamia Masjid Srinagar, which has been under lockdown for weeks now. “Locking down a grand mosque is highly condemnable and the government should not use such means that interfere in the religious affairs of people. The authorities should allow the prayers and make sure religious centres or affairs do not be affected for political reasons,” he said.

A party spokesperson also condemned the continuous arrest of Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir and said that by keeping him under custody the authorities are stopping him from performing religious duties as Mirwaiz. “The government should immediately release Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir and also allow Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to perform their religious duties. By keeping both these religious leaders in custody or house arrest, the authorities are not doing any good to Kashmir,” the spokesperson said.
