SRINAGAR: The Fire Emergency Services Department in Kashmir responded to ten separate fire incidents across the region over the past 24 hours, authorities said on Sunday.
Firefighting teams acted promptly, bringing all fires under control and preventing further damage. No casualties have been reported, though the causes of the incidents are still under investigation.
The affected locations included residential houses, hay stacks, a cow shed, a grocery shop, and stored firewood. Specific incidents reported were: Abu Bakar Colony in Habak, Srinagar (firewood and PVC water tank); Malik Mohalla, Kupwara (residential house); Zaindar Mohalla, Habba Kadal (grocery shop); Gund Check, BK Pora, Srinagar (two hay stacks); Pirpora, Tailwani, Anantnag (one hay stack); Malgam, Kunzer, Sopore (two hay stacks); Hadoo, Shopian (double-storied house); Ahmad Abad, Sheikh Mohalla, DH Pora, Kulgam (double-storied house); Gujarbasti, Sheikhpora, Anantnag (cow shed); and Dar Mohalla, Aawura, Kupwara (double-storied house).
ADGP Fire Emergency Services Alok Kumar urged the public to adhere to fire safety norms, ensure proper electrical wiring, and avoid unsafe storage of flammable materials to prevent similar incidents in the future.
