SRINAGAR: Police have arrested three drug peddlers in separate operations in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district and south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday, recovering large quantities of contraband substances.
In Baramulla, a police party from Police Station Chandoosa intercepted two suspicious persons at a checkpoint set up at Faqir-Bagh. The duo were identified as Nisar Ahmad Malla, son of Ghulam Mohammad Malla, and Mohammad Ashraf Malla, son of Ghulam Qadir Malla, both residents of Doudbugh, Chandoosa. During a personal search, police recovered 467 grams of a charas powder-like substance along with a mobile phone from Nisar Ahmad Malla. From Mohammad Ashraf Malla, 33 grams of a charas-like substance, cash amounting to Rs 7,240 and a mobile phone were recovered. A case under FIR No. 01/2026 has been registered at Police Station Chandoosa under relevant sections of law, and investigation is underway.
In another operation in Baramulla, police acting on specific information recovered a large quantity of contraband from a residence in Watergam. Police said a charas-like substance weighing 7.212 kilograms was seized during a search conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses, including local Numberdars and former Sarpanches. The case has been registered under FIR No. 02/2026 at Police Station Kreeri under Sections 8 and 20 of the NDPS Act. The accused, identified as Farooq Ahmad Chopan alias Beta, son of Ghulam Hassan Chopan of Watergam, is yet to be arrested, and further investigation is in progress.
Meanwhile, in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, a police party from Police Station Litter apprehended a suspicious person during routine patrolling at Kulpora. On search, police recovered 4.5 kilograms of a charas powder-like substance from his possession. The accused was identified as Parvez Ahmed Dar, son of Ali Mohammad Dar, a resident of Kulpora. A case under FIR No. 04/2026 has been registered at Police Station Litter, and investigation has been taken up to trace the source and intended supply chain of the contraband.
Police have urged the public to report any information related to drug peddling or other criminal activities to the nearest police station or by dialling 112, reiterating their commitment to taking strict action against drug-related offences.
