SRINAGAR: In a significant move to elevate the tourism appeal of Asia’s largest Tulip garden, the Department of Floriculture has introduced five new tulip varieties this year while expanding the garden’s existing area, a DIPR statement said.

The Tulip Garden remains open for around one month as the life tulips is not more than 15-17 days.

Commissioner Secretary of Floriculture, Sheikh Fayaz Ahmad, in a meeting at the Civil Secretariat highlighted the department’s commitment to enhancing the allure of the Tulip Garden for tourists worldwide. He emphasised the addition of five new tulip varieties, bringing the total count to 73.

“With 1.7 million tulips anticipated to bloom this season, preparations have been completed, including the expansion of the parking lot by an additional four kanals to facilitate smooth visitor experiences,” reads the statement.

Acknowledging the Tulip Garden’s recent inclusion in the World Book of Records, Sheikh Fayaz expressed pride in its contribution to the tourism sector of Jammu and Kashmir. Anticipating a surge in tourist arrivals this year, he underscored the department’s proactive preparations.

Sheikh Fayaz also directed officials to expedite ongoing civil works, including infrastructure upgrades, lighting systems, and washroom facilities across parks in all districts. He stressed the timely completion of all projects and instructed the Director Floriculture to oversee execution diligently.

Furthermore, it was revealed during the meeting that the Floriculture department has installed multi activity children equipment in seven more parks bringing the total number of parks with children equipment to 14.

Director Floriculture Kashmir, Farooq Ahmad Rather, emphasised the department’s commitment to ensuring children’s safety and enjoyment in the parks, urging vigilant monitoring of equipment and prompt replacements when necessary.
