SRINAGAR: One person has died and three others have been injured after two light aircrafts collided mid-air near Fort Morgan Municipal Airport in Colorado on late Sunday, authorities confirmed, as reported by Fox News.
The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office as per ABC news said emergency crews were dispatched shortly before 10.45am following reports of a crash. On arrival, they found wreckage from two planes in fields adjacent to the airport.
A preliminary inquiry indicated that a Cessna, on its final approach to the runway, was struck by a second aircraft, identified as an Extra Flugzeugbau EA300. Witnesses said the planes clipped each other before both went down in flames.
Each plane was carrying two people. The occupants of the Cessna sustained only minor injuries and were treated at the scene. One person aboard the EA300 was taken to hospital, while the second was pronounced dead by the county coroner.
Thick plumes of smoke were seen rising from the crash site as bystanders attempted to extinguish the blazes.
In a statement, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as per CBS news confirmed the collision during landing attempts. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will lead the investigation, with support from the FAA.
