SRINAGAR: Jammu (Rural) Police on Sunday said they recovered a telescope that can be mounted on a weapon from the Sidhra area on the outskirts of Jammu, after a six-year-old boy reportedly found the device in a garbage dump.

Police said the child picked up the equipment from a garbage bin in the Asrarabad locality of Sidhra and was later seen playing with it, prompting family members to alert the authorities. Acting on the information, local police, along with teams of the Special Operations Group, recovered the object and initiated an inquiry into how it reached the area.
In a statement, Jammu (Rural) Police said further investigation was underway and advised the public not to panic.
According to the police, the recovered item is a gun-mounted telescope, commonly known as a weapon scope, and is believed to be of Chinese origin. Such optical devices are designed to be attached to firearms to assist in aiming at distant targets, and are used by military personnel as well as hunters. Security officials said such equipment can also be misused to observe troop movements and patrols from a distance.
Following the recovery, senior police officers visited the spot, and search operations were carried out in and around the Sidhra area as part of precautionary measures.
