Pakistani Army has handed over a 55 year old Bengali woman to Indian Army in Uri Sector in Baramulla district on Wednesday.

The Bengali woman had inadvertently crossed Line of Control (LoC) in Uri Sector in October last year.

Reports quoting police said that the women is “mentally challenged” and has been admitted in Psychiatric Hospital Srinagar for treatment. The women according police says “she is Bengali, but did not remember where she lives in West Bengal.”

Army officials, according to the reports said that Pakistan Army contacted them Wednesday morning on hotline. “We were told about the woman on hotline by Pakistani Army,” the top Army official said here adding that she was later handed over to us at Aman Setu Bridge Salamabad Crossing Point in Uri. He said she was later handed over to Police Station Uri. “The Pakistani Rangers told us that the lady had crossed Line of Control (LOC) in October 2016, from Uri Sector,” they said adding that Pakistan Rangers have brought new clothes for her and handed over with sweets to Indian Army.

Police officials said that she was handed over to them by Army last evening. They said she has been admitted in Psychiatric Hospital Srinagar for treatment after a proper direction from magistrate.

Police said that women had been spotted in Uri in summer months (June, July) and was seen working as rage- picker. “But nobody complained to us after she crossed over Pakistan occupied Kashmir,” police said.
