An old woman died allegedly due to suffocation caused by tear gas smoke shells during the clashes between youth and the government forces in Qamarwari area of Srinagar on Saturday.

Reports said that following the gunfight between militants and government forces in Chattabal area, an intense firing of tear gas shells and pepper shells started near Masjid-e-Ibrahim Qamarwari Srinagar due to which a woman identified as Fatima Begum developed serious complications resulting into her death.

Family sources said that soon after Fatima felt unconscious family took her to the Srinagar hospital for the treatment, where she was declared as brought dead.

Meanwhile, police said that Fatima died a natural death caused by heart failure.
