SRINAGAR: A retired employee has survived an attack on his life. He is admitted to the hospital in Baramulla where he is recovering, reports said.

Police sources identified the person as Abdul Rashid Lone, a resident of Khanpora. They said he has received a bullet in his leg and was quickly shifted to the hospital. They said a case was registered and investigations have already started.

SSP Baramulla Imtiaz Ahmad said Lone was coming out of the local mosque after Taravih prayers and was accompanied by his nephew Tariq Ahmad. “They said suddenly a boy appeared on the scene and fired a few shots at him from his pistol,” Imtiaz said. “A bullet hit him and he was injured and quickly shifted to hospital.” He said Tariq also received a bullet. “Both are stable,” he said, insisting the assailant was a militant.

Lone was a retired employee of electric department. Police said they have registered a case and started investigations.

There are rumours that Lone was an activist of ruling PDP. Police said they have no idea.
