SRINAGAR: In the first-ever twelfth class results comprising all the students from Jammu and Kashmir – excepting parts of the winter zone in the Jammu region – 65 per cent were declared successful. Of 127636 candidates who write their examinations, 82441 were declared successful.
As usual girls have performed better than boys. While the pass percentage of boys was 61 per cent, those of girls was 68 per cent. However, the shocking part of the data is that there were fewer girls who wrote their examinations than boys. While the girls numbered only 62116, the boys were at 65519, indicating a good dropout rate. At least one candidates who had declared himself to be third gender has passed his examination.
The gazette issued by the Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education said 21 per cent (27272) passed with distinction, 29 per cent (36393) with first division, 14 per cent (17734) in second division, and only one per cent (1042) with third division. As many as 41952 candidates (33 per cent) will have to reappear and 3243 were declared failed.

In Science stream, all the top three positions were bagged by Kashmir students. These included topper Shahid Bashir (Fayaz Educational Institute Faizabad Nowgam), Mustaqeem Afaq (Bisco School) and Haifa Sajad (Mallison Srinagar).
A Jammu candidate Kavya Sharma (SRLM Parade) shared the fourth position with three Kashmir students – Aisha Aijaz (Oasis Srinagar), Misbah Shireen (Green Valley), and Nimat Munshi (Presentation Convent).
In Commerce Stream, the topper is Irtiza Manzoor Shah, a student of state run Higher Secondary School at Zadibal.
The second position was shared by six students – three each from Kashmir and Jammu. These included Fiza Zehra (Green Valley Srinagar), Kritika Dogra (Shiksha Niketan Jeevan Nagar), Muskan Maqbool (HSS Nawa Kadal), Shriya Pathania (SP Senior Secondary School Bari Brhamna), Syed Mehnoor Andrabi (Green Valley Srinagar), Vanshika Mahajan (SP Senior Secondary School Bari Brhamna).
The third position was shared by five candidates from across Kashmir.
In the arts stream, all the top three positions were bagged by Kashmir students. The first two slots went to HSS Amira Kadal – Mahveen Wani and Adda Manzoor. The third position was shared by Azmat Zehra (Green Valley) and HSS Kothinbagh’s Fiza Mushtaq and Misbah.
In the Home Science category, all the three positions were taken by three Kashmiri girls – Ilsa Parray (HSS Baramulla), Rutba Aijaz and Itika Khursheed (Rainbagh Anantnag).
