SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has transferred 14,956 Kanal and 15 Marla of land in Jammu division and 6,745 Kanal and 19 Marla in Kashmir division for the establishment of Industrial Estates, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary informed the House on Saturday.
Responding to a question raised by Ali Mohammad Dar, the Deputy Chief Minister further stated that intents have been placed for an additional 9,661.05 Kanal in Jammu and 5,000.13 Kanal in Kashmir for future industrial expansion.
Highlighting the focus sectors under the J and K Industrial Policy 2021-30, Choudhary said that Education and Skill Development are key areas of investment. These sectors are also part of the Service Sector Positive List under the New Central Sector Scheme (NCSS) 2021, issued by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
He also revealed that under the Jammu and Kashmir Start-Up Policy, notified through Government Order No. 29-JK(IND) of 2024 dated 23.02.2024, a total of 596 applicants have been registered. Of these, 436 have been recognised as startups, including 26 in the Skill Development and Education sector.
The Deputy Chief Minister further stated that the Industrial Estates have been designated as sector-specific hubs, with over 3,628 Kanal earmarked for industries such as Education and Skill Development, Health and Medical Education, and IT/ITeS across both divisions. The initiative aims to bolster economic growth and create employment opportunities in the region.
