SRINAGAR: Member of Parliament from Srinagar, Syed Aga Ruhullah has expressed concerns over the continued incarceration of political prisoners from the region, urging their immediate release. In a statement shared on social media ahead of Jumu’atul-Wida, he highlighted the plight of detained activists in Indian jails.
Ruhullah referred to the case of Khurram, who has spent four years behind bars, separated from his children, and Irfan, who was arrested just a month after his marriage and has now completed two years in captivity. He lamented that these detentions persist while the world remains indifferent to their suffering.
“As Ramadan’s sacred nights begin, let our duas rise to Allah SWT for their freedom and an end to oppression,” Ruhullah wrote. He called upon people to remember the injustices faced by prisoners from Kashmir and others across India, including Sharjeel Imam and Umar Khalid, who remain incarcerated under various charges.
Ruhullah linked their imprisonment to a broader pattern of oppression, drawing parallels between the suffering in Kashmir and the situation in Gaza. He urged people to offer prayers on Jumu’atul-Wida, the last Friday of Ramadan, emphasising the importance of standing against injustice and in solidarity with the oppressed.
“Dua is our weapon. May Allah SWT hasten their release and grant them victory,” he added (KNT)
