SRINAGAR: Chancellor Sunil Galgotia of Galgotias University announced a 50 percent scholarship for students from Jammu and Kashmir during the Smart India Hackathon, underscoring the institution’s commitment to supporting talent from the region. He highlighted the Hackathon as a unique platform for unlocking the creativity and innovation of young minds, encouraging students from JK and across the country to actively contribute to national progress.
The announcement was made during an event where Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha delivered the keynote address. The Lieutenant Governor commended the Government of India’s initiative, calling it a dynamic platform for bridging the gap between education and industry. He encouraged youth to develop solutions that are both socially useful and commercially viable.
Promoting Innovation and Sustainable Growth
The Lieutenant Governor emphasised the need for inclusive development and called on innovators to focus on critical sectors such as water conservation, energy management, waste reduction, precision agriculture, and e-governance. He urged participants to explore technological solutions to challenges faced by the agriculture sector, such as soil health, pest control, and climate change adaptation.
“Innovation should lead to social change and drive India’s economic growth. We need cutting-edge technologies and environment-friendly solutions to achieve the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
Educational Institutions as Catalysts for Progress
Calling on universities to implement the National Education Policy 2020 in letter and spirit, the Lieutenant Governor highlighted their role in establishing India as a knowledge economy. He also encouraged academic institutions to promote an entrepreneurial ecosystem and foster collaboration between academia, industry, and policymakers.
The event saw participation from policymakers, innovators, and students from various regions, with MP Ashok Bajpai, Chancellor Sunil Galgotia, Vice Chancellor Dr K. Mallikharjuna Babu, and CEO Dr Dhruv Galgotia in attendance.
