After gripping Delhi in the worst outbreak of dengue fever in five years infecting above 1800 cases, dengue scare has now made inroads in Jammu and Kashmir where it has already infected five cases.
The five cases were confirmed in Jammu where Health Department has alerted hospitals to keep tab on patients with high fever. “As of now,” one senior medico said, “the situation is under control. But we don’t want to take any chances.”
It is pertinent to mention that Jammu has a history of catching the fever. In 2013, panic gripped the region after more than 1,000 cases of dengue were detected.
Medicos say the mosquito carries the dengue virus breeds in containers with clear, stagnant water. “Dengue cases usually jump during and just after the rainy season, which normally lasts from June to September.”
