SRINAGAR: 350 paramilitary forces companies posted along the Amarnath Yatra route will stay in Jammu and Kashmir for the assembly polls.
Hindustan times reported that the companies include those from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Border Security Force (BSF). “The BSF will send personnel to the Indo-Bangladesh border,” it reported while quoting sources.
The decision comes after incidents reported in J&K this year. Security personnel and civilians have been killed, and militants have been eliminated.
The Amarnath Yatra security was handled by CRPF, BSF, Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and the SSB. Officials said some BSF companies could be sent to the India-Pakistan border in Punjab.
A meeting of senior officers from all agencies will be held to decide on the deployment of the companies. Each paramilitary force company has personnel.
Assembly elections in J&K are scheduled in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with results to be declared on October 4.
The news paper quoting officials reported that 350 companies will remain posted in J&K for election security duty. The areas where they need to be deployed will be decided after a joint security review of the different agencies.
Elections in J&K are scheduled against the backdrop of terror attacks in the UT. Civilians and security personnel have been killed, and terrorists have been eliminated.
After elections in J&K, the security teams will move to areas affected by Left Wing Extremism as part of the government’s efforts to combat Naxals.
