SRINAGAR: The Aga family of Budgam has issued a clarification denying any association with Mohsin Ali, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate contesting in the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir bye-elections, following reports and social media claims linking him to the family.
In a statement, the family said that Mohsin Ali, son of Syed Ali Shah of Mirgund, has “absolutely no connection or affiliation, personal, familial, or ideological, with the Aga family.” The clarification came after the BJP announced the candidature of Aga Syed Mohsin for the elections, prompting confusion among sections of the public regarding his identity.
“It has come to our attention that Mohsin Ali is being falsely associated with the Aga family of Budgam. This individual is not connected to us in any way,” the statement read, terming the association “deceptive, unethical, and wholly unacceptable.”
The family alleged that the BJP was attempting to “misuse the name of Aga Syed Mohsin Al-Mosavi Sahib for petty political gains” and said such actions amounted to misleading the public and tarnishing the family’s reputation.
Aga Syed Mohsin Al-Mosavi Sahib, known for his opposition to the BJP’s ideology and policies, reiterated through the statement that his family’s political and religious positions remain unchanged.
Aga Owais, son of Aga Syed Mohsin, said, “His actual name is Syed Mohsin, and he is not from the Aga clan. His name is similar to Aga Mohsin, and this is being used to create misunderstanding.”
“The BJP’s candidate is not from our family,” he clarified.
The clarification follows BJP’s announcement of candidates, including “Aga Syed Mohsin” and Devyani Rana, for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir bye-elections.
