In a bid to foil separatist called ‘Srinagar Million March’ forces resorted to nocturnal raids and arrested scores of youth from different hamlets of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The parents of these arrested youth were seen waiting outside Police Station Pulwama on Monday who alleged that their wards have been arrested “without any provocation and proof”.
While talking to CNS, these parents said that Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF jointly raided different houses in Kakapora, Chattarpora, Ratnipora, Galbugh, Aarihal and Begumbagh hamlets and dragged youth from their houses. These parents identified some of the arrested youth as Nazir Ahmed Wagay (Kakapora), Reyaz Ahmed Wagay (Begumbagh), Ghulam Muhammad Hurrah (Gulbugh), Muhammad Yousuf Mir (Ratnipora), Altaf Ahmed Raina (Aarihal) and Fayaz Ahmed Khan from Chattarpora.
“My son Altaf Raina is a government teacher. Neither is he a stone-pelter nor associated with any separatist group,” his father said. The parents accused police of “harassment” and said, “the present Coalition Government has broken all the records of tyranny.”
A senior police officer wishing not to named said that the arrested youth “are known stone-pelters” and have been picked up to “ensure peace” in the town on the day when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kashmir on November 7. “More arrests are expected in coming days. We have prepared a list of known stone-pelters who will be nabbed in coming days,” he said adding that all these arrested persons will be released only after the culmination of Modi’s rally in Srinagar.
