The government Thursday decided that it wouldn’t allow the separatists to become part of the Indo-Pak talks on Kashmir as ahead of their meeting with Pakistan’s National Security Adviser, separatist leaders were either placed house arrest or were detained.
The move which is read as Delhi’s strong reservations on separatist participation in Indo-Pak talks has apparently debarred Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Yasin Malik, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and others from their scheduled meeting with Sartaj Aziz during ahead of the NSA level talks.
As per the reports, heavy security has been deployed outside the trio’s residences.
While Geelani is continuously under house arrest since April 15 this year, JKLF chairman Yasin Malik has been arrested along with some of his party members Thursday morning.
It is said that the house arrest is likely to be in force until the completion of the NSA level talks.
Earlier, some voices in Modi government had pitched that the view of the separatists would not matter when it comes to resolving the Kashmir issue. “It is a bi-lateral and the talks should be between the two nations. The separatists have no role to play,” they said.
