SRINAGAR: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Jammu and Kashmir on May 30, during which he will address BSF personnel and meet families affected by Pakistan shelling in Poonch district. According to Daily Excelsior, Shah will also distribute appointment letters to the next of kin of those killed in the shelling and visit religious sites damaged in the cross-border firing.

Shah is expected to arrive in Jammu on the evening of May 29 and will chair a high-level security review meeting. The meeting will include Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, top officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Army, paramilitary forces, JK Police, intelligence agencies, and civil administration. Senior officers from BSF, CRPF, Intelligence Bureau, NIA, and top Army commanders will also attend.
Daily Excelsior reported that the review will cover ongoing anti-terror operations, the anti-infiltration grid, and the status of Operation Sindoor, in which Indian Armed Forces targeted nine terror sites inside Pakistan and PoJK. Security arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra will also be discussed.
On May 30, Shah will travel to Poonch to address BSF jawans at their unit headquarters in Khanetar, about nine kilometres from Poonch town. He will also meet civilians at Dak Bungalow who were affected by Pakistani shelling on the night of May 7–8, which followed Operation Sindoor. Thirteen civilians, including four children, were killed and three religious sites damaged in the shelling. Several homes and commercial establishments were also destroyed.
In neighbouring Rajouri, a JKAS officer and two civilians also lost their lives in the shelling.
During his recent visit to Poonch, LG Manoj Sinha announced government jobs for the families of those killed. He also said a central relief package for damaged properties would be announced. The package is nearly final and may be declared by Shah during or after his visit.
This will be Shah’s third visit to JK since April 6 and the first following Operation Sindoor, launched in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists. Shah last visited Kashmir on April 22, immediately after the attack.
