SRINAGAR: A joint anti-terror operation by the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force entered its seventh day on Friday in the forested Manjakote sector of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
The search operation is currently underway in the Gambhir Mughlan and Dorimal forest belt following intelligence inputs indicating the presence of suspected militants in the area.
Officials said security forces have intensified the operation by tightening the cordon around the dense forest region to prevent any possible escape by the militants.
A heavy exchange of fire and shelling was reported in the Dorimal area on Thursday as the operation entered a critical phase, they added.
Additional reinforcements and logistical support have been deployed to bolster the operation, while surveillance and combing operations continue deep inside the forest belt.
Security forces are carrying out extensive searches in the difficult terrain and maintaining a strict perimeter around suspected hideout locations, officials said.
The operation, codenamed “Operation Sheruwali”, was launched jointly by the Army, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police earlier this week following specific intelligence inputs regarding militant movement in the region.
No casualties have been reported so far, officials added.
