SRINAGAR: Smithsonian Institution Fellowship Program (SIFP) is providing senior fellowships, post-doctorate fellowships, pre-doctorate fellowships, and Graduate Student Fellowships.

Applications are accepted through online mode up to November 1, 2022.

Senior fellows who have received the Ph.D. or equivalent before June 1, 2016, are also eligible.

The term is 3-12 months with a yearly stipend of Rs 45,20,725 and a Research allowance up to Rs 4,10,975. Scholars up to 7-years beyond PhD are eligible for Post-doctoral fellowship. The term is 3-12 months with a yearly stipend of Rs 45,20,725 and a Research allowance up to Rs 4,10,975. Pre Doctoral Fellowship is for candidates who have to conduct dissertation research.

Students enrolled in a university as candidates for the PhD or equivalent are eligible. Their term is also 3-12 months with a yearly stipend of Rs 34,93,500 and Research Allowance up to Rs 4,10,975. For graduate students who want to conduct independent research usually before having been advanced to candidacy if in a PhD programme, there is a ten week graduate student fellowship. They have a yearly stipend of Rs 6,57,600.

The fellowships are offered  to graduate students, pre doctoral students, post doctoral students and senior researchers to conduct independent research.

The fellowships offered through Smithsonian’s office of Academic appointments and internships, applicants can opt for fellowships in any of the given fields of study – Animal behavior, ecology, environmental sciences including an emphasis on the trophic; Anthropology including archaeology, cultural anthropology, linguistics and physical anthropology; astrophysics and astronomy; earth sciences and palebiology, evolutionary and systemic biology; Folklife, history of art, especially American, contemporary, African, and Asian Art, twentieth century American crafts and decorative arts; Materials research; molecular biology; social and cultural history of United States.

All citizenships can apply for the fellowship.

The tenure must begin in between June 1, 2023 and May 30, 2024. Selections are based upon proposal’s merit and the applicant’s ability to carry out the proposed research.

The documents required to submit include an abstract of not more than one page, research proposal of maximum six pages, time table, budget and justification, bibliography, CV, academic transcripts and two references from appropriate persons.
