SRINAGAR: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has opened the application process for the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship 2026–27, providing Indian students an opportunity to study a wide range of disciplines, including natural and life sciences, information technology, economics, business and management, and engineering at top universities in Hungary.
Under the Education Exchange Programme Agreement between the Ministry of Human Capacities, Hungary, and the Ministry of Education, Government of India, 200 fully funded scholarships have been provided to Indian students to pursue various levels of study. The number is distributed with 50 scholarships for undergraduate courses, 75 for postgraduate courses, and 30 for PhD applicants. Another 40 scholarships are offered for part-time postgraduate courses and research, while the remaining five are for interpreter, translator and literary translator studies.
The scholarship provides full financial coverage, including complete exemption from tuition fees, a monthly stipend depending on the level of study, free dormitory accommodation or a monthly housing allowance, medical insurance, and travel support.
The general eligibility criteria include a minimum of 60 per cent marks in the last qualifying examination from a recognised educational institution, and the applicant should be born on or before August 31, 2008. January 15, 2026, is the deadline for online submission through the Tempus Public Foundation, while hard copies can be submitted to the UGC till January 22, 2026.
Applicants are required to submit a filled application in the format prescribed by the UGC, a printout of the online submitted application, their date of birth or Class X certificate, marksheet of the last examination passed, and a copy of the passport or any valid Indian identity proof. Students awaiting results can submit provisional marksheets, and if the marks are in CGPA, a conversion to percentage with documented proof is required.
