Army Wednesday said that militants are present in large number in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district whose plan is to disrupt the forthcoming Parliament and Assembly elections.

From past one week, Army is receiving inputs about the presence and movement of militants in various hamlets of Kulgam town. Locals said that from past one week, Army is raiding various hamlets and they cordoned off villages like Srandoo, Khandipora, Gopbal, Laroo, Shurat and Naikpora to flush out the militants.

Commanding Officer Jamwal of 9 RR told CNS that they continuously receive inputs about the presence and inputs of militants. “As we cordon off the area, the militants flee from the spot. They are evading the arrests and don’t confront us,” he said.

Commanding Officer further said that militants are present in large number in Kulgam town and Army is after them. “They could disrupt the forthcoming Parliament and Assembly elections if not neutralized. We are after them and hopefully the Army will get them sooner or later,” Jamwal said adding that militants so far managed to break the cordon laid down by Army in various hamlets of Kulgam town.
