SRINAGAR: On Wednesday, Army’s 34 Assam Rifles responded to a distress call and successfully evacuated a trekker from an altitude of 10,000 ft near Nundkol Lake on the Great Lakes Trek in Ganderbal district.

“Upon receiving a distress call from a group of trekkers located at 10,000 ft near Nandkol Lake on the Great Lakes Trek in Ganderbal District, the nearby Assam Rifles camp promptly initiated a rescue operation. They dispatched a rescue team along with a medical assistant,” an official statement read.

The statement further explained, “A 37-year-old trekker named Abdul Jabbar, who hails from Malda, West Bengal, experienced low oxygen levels at Nund Kol. While the group was descending from Nundkol to Naranag, the trekker faced a significant drop in oxygen levels, prompting the group to seek immediate assistance from the nearby Assam Rifles Camp.”

“The Indian Army immediately launched a rescue mission,” stated the defense spokesman.

“An Indian Army medical team was quickly reinforced by an ambulance and a team of doctors from Kangan Trauma Hospital. These teams rushed to the location and provided essential medical assistance to the trekker at Naranag. Subsequently, he was safely evacuated to Kangan Trauma Hospital,” the statement read. (KNO)
