Article 370 Abrogation Illegality Unveiled In SC: Mehbooba Mufti

SRINAGAR: Former Chief Minister and PDP President, Mehbooba Mufti, has expressed her satisfaction with the manner in which lawyers are exposing the blatant illegality and unconstitutionality of the abrogation of Article 370 in the Supreme Court of India.

“I am relieved that the BJP-RSS administration will be unable to quell the voices and arguments contesting this illegal action within the Supreme Court. My colleagues and I have tirelessly worked to amplify the sentiments of the people of Jammu and Kashmir since the state’s fragmentation and the revocation of its special status. Regrettably, we have faced the severe consequences of a formidable establishment bent on stifling any opposing viewpoints,” Mufti said.

Mufti underscored that the Supreme Court is currently examining how the former governor unilaterally assumed the role of the constituent assembly and his advisors took on the responsibilities of the council of ministers.

She highlighted the prevalent consensus that the entire process conducted by the central government is blatantly illegal and unconstitutional due to the absence of approval from the actual constituent assembly of Jammu and Kashmir. These are the very points, Mufti stressed, that she and her party have been advocating since day one.

On a more emotional note, Mufti admitted that she has refrained from attending the Supreme Court proceedings, as she would find it emotionally taxing to endure arguments favoring the unlawful abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status.

Mufti expressed her hope that the Supreme Court will deliver a fair and just verdict in this case, ultimately ensuring justice for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“To me, this issue transcends mere legality and constitutionality; it encompasses the faith and aspirations of the people of J&K. It is also a matter that will determine whether our leadership’s decision to reject the two-nation theory and align with a secular and democratic India, with the promise of safeguarding our identity and special status, was justified from the very beginning,” she concluded.
