SRINAGAR: As the Supreme Court of India is hearing a batch of petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370, Kashmir leaders have pinned their hopes on the apex court’s final verdict.

Vice President of  National Conference (NC) Omar Abdullah who is in Delhi said that he is hopeful that justice will be delivered. “We will plead our case on behalf of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and are hopeful of a positive outcome. From the very first day, we have been saying that the abrogation of Article 370 was illegal and unconstitutional. We are here to seek justice. People have all hopes pinned on the supreme court and its verdict.”

He further said, “We are here on behalf of the people of J&K with the hope that we can prove that what happened on August 5, 2019, was unconstitutional and illegal.”

Addressing the media at party headquarters, PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti said that the Supreme Court is the guardian of the constitution and has to prevent its tampering.

“The constitution is being tampered with as per the agenda of a particular party. BJP with its brute majority destroyed 370, taking away  the unique identity of JK,” she said.

“The country should run as per the constitution and not the agendas of a particular party. The supreme court proceedings will go on for some time and we hope that the Supreme Court comes to the rescue of the Constitution so that the country is saved from the communal agendas of BJP,” she added.
