J&K High Court Bar Association Srinagar Tuesday strongly condemns the ruthless beating of four men, including a woman, a mother of seven daughters, in Chuntimullah village of Bandipora Monday.

These people were beaten up when they were protesting against the arrest and wrongful detention of four youth, picked up during a search operation.

“The Bar Association feels that protesting against the illegal detention of innocents and demanding their release was not a sin committed by those villagers, for which they were ruthlessly beaten and critically injured, as it was their right to protest and the army was bound to listen to them,” Bar Association said in a statement.

“The Bar Association feels that Kashmir, declared a disturbed area in July, 1990 when Mufti Mohammad Syed was the Home Minister of India, has been turned into a fortress and a concentration camp by both Indian Army and the police, and people – men, women and children are arrested on mere suspicion and either beaten, maimed or jailed or else eliminated with impunity and the World is watching this spectrum for the last 26 years, with eyes shut.”

Even day in and day out, the Bar Association said, arrest of innocent youth, their parents and kith and kin is made and Public Safety Act is slapped on them randomly.

“Post Modi’s visit to Kashmir, dossiers are prepared and detentions under Public Safety Act to muzzle the pro-freedom leaders and their workers are resorted to. Crackdown and searches of 1990 pattern are conducted through the nook and corner of the valley under the garb of nabbing militants, which is all shamelessly defended by those who claim to be protagonists of freedom to life and liberty.”

The Bar Association while condemning the aforesaid acts of the authorities, requests the Amnesty International, Human Rights Group, Asia Watch, OIC and other Human Rights Organizations of the world to take notice of the happening of the Kashmir and “force India to stop the genocide of Kashmiris and to concede to the right of self-determination to the people of Kashmir”.

Meanwhile, in a separate condolence meeting, Bar expressed grief and shock on the sad demise of Bilal A Kakapori, who had been arrested by the police some time back and had been lodged in Kuthua Jail wherefrom he was shifted to police Station Pulwama, where he suffered a shock and instead of referring him to a doctor, he was handed over to his family members, who took him to SKIMS Soura where he breathed his last.

“The Bar Association demands an impartial inquiry to be conducted by some judicial authority to find out as to how and in what manner Bilal Ahmad Kakapori lost his life.”
