SRINAGAR: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) imposed a ban on a cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, alleging the submission of multiple birth certificates.

The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) issued a press statement on the matter, disclosing that cricketer Vanshaj Sharma, a resident of Bishnah, Jammu, has been banned by the BCCI for presenting various birth certificates with different dates of birth.

“For this act, he has been banned from participating in all BCCI tournaments for a period of two years from October 27,” stated Brig Anil Gupta, Member Administration JKCA.

Brig Gupta explained that after serving the two-year ban, the player can only partake in the Senior Men’s Tournament organised by the BCCI and will be barred from involvement in any age group tournaments of the BCCI.

“In this instance, Vanshaj Sharma relocated to another state and applied as a member of the U-23 Men’s team of Bihar,” the JKCA official further added. However, Brig Gupta pointed out that since Vanshaj Sharma’s initial registration with the JKCA in 2021-22, his information had been accessible to the BCCI. Consequently, despite his change in affiliation, he was penalised for submitting multiple birth certificates.

“As a result, he has been banned from participating in any tournament for two years and from engaging in age group tournaments for the rest of his life,” the press release specified.
