SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday directed senior civil and police officials to remain on high alert and deal sternly with any attempts to disturb public order. He also instructed them to take the strongest possible measures to curb fake news and disinformation in Jammu and Kashmir.
Chairing a high-level security and preparedness review meeting, LG Sinha assessed the situation across the Union Territory amid heightened tensions. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Principal Secretary (Home) Chandraker Bharti, ADGP CID Nitish Kumar, and other top administrative and security officials, including Divisional Commissioners, IGPs, DIGs, Deputy Commissioners and SSPs.
Officials briefed the Lieutenant Governor on the actionable measures implemented following earlier directions issued on 6 May, focusing on physical infrastructure, public safety, and cyber security.
“I have full confidence in the ability of officials, police, and security forces to face any emergent situation. Seamless coordination among the administration, police, and armed forces is the key in the present circumstances,” LG Sinha said.
Emphasising community engagement, the LG instructed Deputy Commissioners and SSPs to regularly visit vulnerable areas, interact directly with people on the ground, and remain responsive to their needs. He further directed Divisional Commissioners to meet prominent citizens and maintain continuous engagement with the public.
“We must take precautionary steps and remain prepared for any exigency. Ensure the effective execution of evacuation plans and standard operating procedures. All basic amenities must be available at shelter centres,” he added.
The LG stated that although the armed forces had successfully targeted terror hubs inside Pakistan, the adversary had turned to targeting civilians. On the night of 7–8 May, an attempt was made to strike military targets within the Union Territory and the country, which was effectively neutralised.
“We need to stay vigilant. Civil administration, defence forces, and law enforcement agencies must work in close coordination to overcome any challenges that lie ahead,” the Lieutenant Governor stressed.
