SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) President Farooq Abdullah on Thursday expressed deep anguish over the death of 13 civilians and injuries to many others following intense shelling by the Pakistan Army along the Line of Control (LoC), particularly in Poonch district.
Speaking during a meeting with party office bearers at Nawa-e-Subha, the party headquarters in Srinagar, Abdullah extended solidarity with the victims’ families and called for united efforts to support those affected by the cross-border attacks.
“Homes and other structures have been destroyed, livestock has perished, and people are fleeing from the targeted areas. There is utter chaos in regions such as Keran, Kupwara, Uri, Machil, Poonch, Rajouri, Akhnoor, and other parts along the LoC and International Border,” he said.
Abdullah noted that while the government has initiated relief measures and essential service delivery, more needs to be done on the ground. He highlighted the efforts of JKNC leaders including Cabinet Minister Javed Rana and MLAs Ajaz Jan and Sajjad Shafi, who are visiting hospitals and relief camps to assist affected families.
Calling on party members to intensify relief work, Abdullah urged local functionaries to devote themselves to public welfare. “In the face of adversity, unity and support are crucial. The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference stands firm in its commitment to aiding those affected by these tragic events,” he said.
The meeting was attended by several senior leaders of the party including General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Additional General Secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Treasurer Shammi Oberoi, Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, Provincial President Kashmir Showkat Mir, and MLAs Shameema Firdous, Salman Ali Sagar, Ahsan Pardesi.
