SRINAGAR: Senior leader Devender Singh Rana Saturday stated that BJP didn’t give importance to NC’s government formation offer though leaders of the regional party were in close touch with the national party multiple times post 2014.

“National Conference not a single but multiple times approached BJP for a strategic alliance in Jammu and Kashmir. In 2014 Omar Abdullah led delegation reached New Delhi for talks with top brass of BJP but they refused the proposal,” Rana said.

He said later on when former chief minister J&K and former Home Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed died in 2017, the leadership of National Conference then felt an another opportunity to form a coalition with BJP. “In 2017 at the time of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s death another delegation of NC moved to New Delhi for deliberations with BJP, but the offer was again rejected,” he said.

The senior BJP leader said, “Since I had been part of NC, multiple times BJP was approached for a strategic alliance with BJP in Jammu and Kashmir, but of no avail”.

“I am not telling hearsay, I’m witnesses to these developments. Such happenings are not under curtains but evident now to everyone what regional political parties did in past for their meeting their political interests,” he held.

On Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jammu on Feb 20, the BJP senior leader asserted that every citizen of Jammu & Kashmir is eagerly waiting for the moment. “PM Modi has taken the country to newer heights. In terms of economy India is among first five countries which depicts the PM Modi’s competence and ability to lead a nation to prosperity and development,” he maintained. (KNS)
