India’s renowned Human Rights Activist Gautam Navlakha Monday said that there is “Military Rule” in Kashmir and all the authority has been “vested in armed forces stationed in Valley who are accountable to none”.
Navlakha was reacting to the killing of 33 civilians in Valley since Saturday.
“Instead of pursuing a reconciliation policy New Delhi has been resorting to such inhuman actions that leads to more and more alienation. Nowhere in India, bullets are being pumped directly into the bodies of protesters. This happens only in Kashmir where armed forces are encouraged to shoot for kill,” Gautam Navlakha told news agency CNS adding that “India is interested in topography of Kashmir and not in people”.
He said that the killing of innocent people in Kashmir by Indian armed forces is not new and “such killings have been occurring since 1947 and their pace has increased from last three decades”.
“It was an eye opener for all and particularly for international community when in 2010, the then Chief Minister (Omar Abdullah) himself asserted that bullets are being showered directly on the protesters. That statement indicated that Kashmir is directly ruled by New Delhi which is least bothered about civilian killings,” Gautam Navlakha said.
He also criticized the international community and world human rights organizations for what he termed as “criminal silence” and “failure to hold India accountable for its crimes in Kashmir”.
Terming the civilian killings from time-to-time as “cold-blooded murder”, Navlakha said, “this is a worst kind of state terrorism of India in Jammu and Kashmir.”
“Every human life is precious but the rigidity and stubbornness of India is the only cause of this bloodshed in Jammu and Kashmir. Kashmiris are not war mongers, they too want to live a peaceful and prosperous life but the keys for establishing peace in Kashmir lies with India,” he said.
He said, “while India is hell bent upon pushing Kashmir’s next generation to the wall and is promoting violence, the international community is silent over this state-sponsored violence. This double standard and hypocrisy will bring disaster.”
