In the ongoing protests triggered by the Burhan’s killing in the Kokernag encounter, so far two youth have been killed. There are many more in various hospitals across Kashmir, some of them seriously injured.

Sources in the health department and police said that Khursheed Ahmad Mir, a resident of Harvet in Kulgam who was injured last night, has succumbed to his injuries. Police said they are investigating “how the youth was killed”.

Similarly, Adil Bashir was killed in Dooru belt of Islamabad district.

In Khundroo village that houses one of the major ordinance depots of the area, unconfirmred reports said that another youth identified as Yawar Manzoor was killed. Details of the incident in which he was killed were not immediately known.

In Siligam village of south Kashmir, another youth Ajaz Thokur is also reported to have been killed but yet not confirmed.

Police said the mobs and the cops are engaged at various places. There are many people who are injured and have been evacuated to the hospitals. Scores of injured have been admitted in district hospital Islamabad.

Medical Superintendent of SMHS, the main hospital of Srinagar, said that they have 25 persons admitted right now. Five of them are serious, he said. “It is chaos and I am not in a position to offer you more details,” he said.

A doctor rang up Kashmir Life telling that an injured who was being rushed to the Pampore hospital was interrupted by the CRPF. “We wanted to treat him but seeing the situation we pushed the ambulance towards Srinagar,” the doctor said.

Giving details, a hospital source said that a bullet injured youth was rushed from Kulgam, however, the ambulance he was being taken to Srinagar was attacked by CRPF some where between Bijbehara and Awantipora. “They stopped at Pampore hospital but police attacked the attendants and two of them were arrested too,” the sources said.

Seeing the situation, the alerted officials of the hospital started the critical care ambulance (Kashmir Life Line) and drove towards SMHS. The injured youth was “given transfusion twice”.

Given the communication breakdown in South Kashmir, the flow of information has become very difficult that has resulted in massive rumour mongering.

Even police’s dithering in confirming the casualties are adding to the mess.
