In view of the killing of militant poster boy, Burhan Wani, J&K government has decided to put in place restrictions in most of Kashmir. The decision followed massive outpouring of people and the separatist shutdown.

Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar said that movement in Srinagar belts falling under six police stations shall remain “restricted” on Saturday. These include most of the old city areas and uptown Maisuma.

Muneer-ul-Islam, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama said strict curfew shall remain in force on Saturday. The town witnessed massive disturbances during the day.

DC Islamabad Abid Rashid told Kashmir Life that the town shall witness restrictions on Saturday.

Burhan Wani along with two other associates died in a gun fight with forces in South Kashmir’s Kokernag early this evening.

Separatist leadership has called for shutdown on Saturday while tributes will be paid to the slain trio for next three days.

APHC-m Chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq will lead funeral prayers in-absentia for Burhan Muzafar Wani at Jamia Masjid Srinagar on Saturday after Zuhr (afternoon) prayers.

Massive unrest was witnessed in various belts across Kashmir. While thousands of people are still marching towards Tral from the peripheral villages, there were protests in various old city areas as well. In various uptown localities, anti-government slogans were also heard. Similar reports of sloganeering from mosques was reported from parts of north Kashmir including city outskirts as well.

Meanwhile state board of school education announced postponement of eleventh class examinations on Saturday. New dates will be announced soon, a board spokesman said.
