The yearly allocations included Rs 488 crore in 2015–16, Rs 755.61 crore in 2016–17, Rs 1,400 crore in 2017–18, Rs 590.77 crore in 2018–19, Rs 695.50 crore in 2019–20, Rs 1,727.30 crore in 2020–21, Rs 1,328.34 crore in 2021–22, Rs 717 crore in 2022–23, Rs 1,304.17 crore in 2023–24, Rs 1,028.25 crore in 2024–25, and Rs 121.17 crore so far in 2025–26.

The Ministry highlighted that PMGSY initiatives have enabled the construction of thousands of kilometres of rural roads and bridges nationwide, focusing on hilly, border, and remote areas like Jammu and Kashmir to improve last-mile connectivity.

Under PMGSY-IV, priority is given to habitations with a population of 250 or more in hilly States and Union Territories, including JK, with a special emphasis on tribal, SC-dominated, and aspirational regions to ensure inclusive access to all-weather roads. The programme continues to function as an area development initiative, with planning based on habitations to guarantee equitable rural connectivity in geographically challenging regions.
