CM Omar Abdullah Reviews Security Measures with Civil Society in Jammu

   

SRINAGAR: In response to the recent drone attacks in Jammu, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday chaired an interaction with civil society members to review public safety measures, preparedness, and the need for maintaining communal harmony.

Addressing the participants, the Chief Minister urged the public to stay calm, remain vigilant and avoid panic. He appealed to citizens to rely on official channels for updates and information.

The Chief Minister outlined measures to strengthen public awareness and emergency response. He said verified safety guidelines and updates would be disseminated through the Department of Information using local television, radio and an official WhatsApp channel. He also highlighted the role of the Traffic Department in raising awareness about emergency alert sirens and signals.

Deployment of police personnel in sensitive areas, activation of relief camps, functional bunkers, and preparedness of healthcare facilities were also discussed. The meeting was informed that the government is ensuring the uninterrupted supply of essential commodities and regulating market prices. Fire services, ambulances, and Civil Defence units have been put on high alert.

The Chief Minister also reviewed healthcare readiness. The Health Department has been directed to keep hospitals and primary health centres fully prepared. A dedicated helpline has been activated for patients requiring life-saving drugs or dialysis. Blood donation camps are being organised with the help of NGOs.

He said the administration is also focused on the safety and care of livestock in affected areas.

Emphasising unity, the Chief Minister called on community leaders to play an active role in maintaining peace. He thanked civil society members for their support and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives during the crisis.

Minister Satish Sharma, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Senior Superintendent of Police Jammu, Director Social Welfare Department Jammu, Director Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Jammu, Regional Transport Officer Jammu, senior police officers and other concerned officers were present at the meeting.

Participants included ex-servicemen, former police chiefs, heads of trade, industry, and travel associations, former ministers, political representatives, educationists, tourism stakeholders, heads of religious organisations from Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and Christian communities, Gujjar and Bakarwal representatives, lawyers’ associations, mandi and fruit body leaders, transporters, and NGOs. They expressed support for the government’s efforts and pledged cooperation under the Chief Minister’s leadership.
