CM Omar Meets PM Modi, Pushes for Early Restoration of Jammu Kashmir Statehood

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and raised a range of issues concerning the Union Territory, including the early restoration of statehood, economic development, and promotion of tourism.

In a post on X, Abdullah said he discussed matters of “importance to Jammu and Kashmir,” with particular emphasis on the return of statehood, the region’s economic condition, the pace of development works, and steps to boost tourism.

“Called on Hon’ble PM @narendramodi ji to discuss issues of importance to J&K including early return of Statehood, the state of the economy, pace of development and promotion of tourism,” Abdullah posted.

The Chief Minister also congratulated the Prime Minister on completing 12 years in office, calling it a “landmark of 12 uninterrupted years in office.”

A statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office said Abdullah highlighted the need for continued support from the Government of India to accelerate economic growth, strengthen connectivity, generate employment, expand infrastructure, and enhance public welfare across Jammu and Kashmir.

It said the discussions also focused on the state of the economy, development priorities, and tourism promotion in the region.

The meeting comes amid sustained demands by the National Conference-led government for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, nearly seven years after the erstwhile state was reorganised in August 2019.
