SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has raised concern over the safety of Kashmiri students in Iran following an Israeli airstrike on the Hujat Dost Ali hostel in Tehran, which reportedly housed several Kashmiri nationals. Some of the students are said to have sustained minor injuries in the strike.

Taking to social media, Abdullah stated that he had spoken with External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar regarding the wellbeing of the students. He said the Union Minister assured him that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) was in close contact with Iranian authorities and would take all necessary steps to safeguard Indian students currently residing in Iran.
Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has issued an advisory for Indian nationals and persons of Indian origin. Citing the “current situation in Iran,” the advisory asked all Indian citizens to avoid unnecessary movement, remain in touch with the embassy, and monitor official social media channels for real-time updates.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has established helplines for families of students stranded in Iran. The move came after families across the Union Territory voiced anxiety over the safety of their children amid growing hostilities.
Omar Abdullah also urged the MEA to consider relocating the Kashmiri students to safer areas within Iran or evacuating them altogether once airspace restrictions are lifted.
