Before next year’s state assembly elections ruling alliance Congress is making its presence felt in J&K region. In recently conducted Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) elections in Kargil district Congress-Imam Khumaini Memmorial Trust alliance won 11 council seats while ruling National Conference-Islamia High School took 8 seats in a 30 member strong council. Five seats were won by independent candidates. The remaining 4 are nominated by the state government.
LADHC is elected for a period of five years. Over the years LADHC became a powerful body as huge unaccounted money is kept at their disposal. Out of 26 seats 2 Councillors were already elected uncontested.
Interestingly PDP and BJP both have fielded had also fielded 8 and 12 candidates respectively, failed to failed to win even a single seat.
