SRINAGAR: Amidst a surge in Covid-19 cases, the Leh district in the union territory of Ladakh administration issued a directive on Monday, making the wearing of masks mandatory in public spaces. With 11 reported cases of Covid-19 in Leh last week, precautionary measures have been mandated to curb the virus’s spread.

“In light of the increasing Covid-19 cases in the district, preventive measures to control the spread of Covid-19, people are hereby instructed to adhere to rigorously. People are obligated to wear face masks in offices, workplaces, and public areas, including public transportation,” stated Santosh Sukhadeve, Chief Executive Officer of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), in an official order.

“The general public is advised to refrain from unnecessary gatherings and avoid crowded places. All Heads of departments (HoDs) in Leh district and sub-divisional magistrates are tasked with ensuring strict compliance with this directive,” Sukhadeve added.

He further noted that the chief medical officer is responsible for conducting thorough surveillance and submitting daily Covid-19 status reports to the DDMA.
